About me

I am a Wallscourt-funded Research Fellow in supportive care and long term conditions and an experienced HCPC/BPS registered Practitioner Health Psychologist.

I have worked clinically and in embedded research in the NHS and charitable sectors since 2004 (CFS/ME, chronic pain, cancer, thyroid disorders, service development and evaluation) and in academia from 2019.

I aim to support people to navigate the compexities of diagnosis and living with the impacts of acute and chronic conditions using a multi-level approach from the individual to service improvement.

My research values focus on shaping psychologically-informed, personalised and inclusive healthcare for people and their support networks though research, clinical applications of health psychology, teaching and supervision.

Area of expertise

Co-production with patients and healthcare teams is core to my research and practice values; engaging people to be involved at all stages of research and innovation that matters to them. I carry out qualitative research to place patients' lived experience and wellbeing at the centre of their care.

My research aims to: support self-management and reduce stigma associated with chronic health conditions (e.g. fatigue and obesity); reduce health inequalities (e.g. increase representation in research or access to diabetes/cardiovascular supportive care) and address the impacts of rare and hard to diagnose and treat conditions, including autoimmune and inflammatory conditions  (e.g. lupus, fibromyalgia and Hashimoto's disease).

During my Wallscourt-funded Fellowship, I am developing expertise in complex intervention design and evaluation, and mixed methods feasibility studies for digital health interventions.

I joined UWE in 2019 as a lecturer in psychology, public health and environmental science in the areas of health psychology, research methods, evaluation and behaviour change. I currently teach on the MSc and Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology.

I am a postgraduate thesis supervisor in Psychology and the Centre for Health and Clinical Research and welcome contact from interested doctoral and PhD students.
